Keynote 1 – The Great Transition to Future Skills for Employees, and How Leaders Should Focus on Positive Augementation vs Replacement

In a post-Brexit environment there are many concerns about the free movement of people and in response we see more organizations exploring automation and robotics. if machines replace humans in doing routine work, and jobs are evolving to require new combinations of human skills and capabilities, this creates the need for organisations to redesign jobs and their work processes to keep pace. As machines take over repeatable tasks and the work people do becomes less routine, many jobs will rapidly evolve into what we call “superjobs”. Superjobs require the breadth of technical and soft skills that hybrid jobs do – but they also combine parts of various traditional jobs into roles that leverage the significant productivity and efficiency gains that happen when people work with smart machines, data, and algorithms. What are some of the organisational and social implications of a potential bifurcation of work into “superjobs” and lower-skilled service sector jobs? In the face of the potential social consequences, how should business leaders challenge themselves to reimagine work to meet the needs of all workforce segments in all job types? In this talk Yazad will define “superjobs” further and address these important questions about how to manage skill requirements of the very near future.
